As we age, our skin changes. It loses its smoothness. Unwanted pigmentation and small vessels can appear. Over time, sun exposure can accelerate signs of aging.
The Nordlys Light & Bright™ treatment uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to improve redness, dark spots, and stimulate your body’s own natural collagen production for bright, glowing skin.
The IPL used in the Light & Bright™ treatment uses a narrow spectrum of light (called SWT® Selective Waveband Technology®) to treat the skin for conditions including acne, sun damage, age spots, redness, spider veins, and rosacea.
La Vitalité Med Spa is a leading provider of Nordlys™ Light & Bright IPL in Toronto, North York, and Markham.
Benefits
Introducing Nordlys™
The Nordlys™ system is an FDA and Health Canada cleared multi-application IPL and laser device that treats hyperpigmentation/ pigmented lesions, vascular conditions, and acne.
SWT® (Selective Waveband Technology) IPL uses exclusive technology to target problem areas with narrow wavelengths of light. Result: less heat in your skin. And fewer treatments compared to Broadband Light (BBL) technology.
Treated Skin Conditions
Clear your acne
The Nordlys™ system gently treats acne by delivering narrow light wavelengths with the SWT IPL.
No topical anesthetics are required and many patients describe the treatment as practically pain-free.
Remove dark spots, brighten your skin
The SWT IPL treatment makes your skin look clear and bright by delivering short bursts of light that directly target the blood vessels or melanin within your skin. It delivers clinically proven results in the treatment of skin rejuvenation. In fact, in one study, 83% of patients had a greater than 50% improvement in cleared vessels.
Use of intense pulsed light (IPL) is a popular solution to remove dark spots, which often can be removed in just a few treatments.
Reduce redness, unsightly veins, birthmarks, and more
The Nordlys™ system’s SWT IPL technology can help improve the appearance of vascular lesions, including:
- Port wine stains
- Leg veins and spider veins
- Broken capillaries
- Diffuse redness
In clinical studies, 80% of patients had a greater than 50% reduction in the number of vessels and 78% of patients with rosacea reported being very satisfied.
BBL vs. IPL Treatment Difference
BBL
Older-technology Broadband Light (BBL) uses broad wavelengths of light — up to 1,400 nm (nanometers) long 16 — which may be more light than needed for some procedures. This results in untargeted, higher energy delivery, which may overheat the skin and cause unnecessary pain and increase risk of unwanted side effects.
Nordlys™ Light & Bright IPL
The SWT® Selective Waveband Technology® used in Light & Bright™ cuts off all light wavelengths above 950 nm, removing potentially harmful higher wavelengths. Since less light is delivered, the skin is exposed to less heat, making the procedure more comfortable. Additionally, this narrowband treatment allows the light that is delivered to be more targeted, potentially requiring fewer treatments than Broadband light therapy.

FAQ
Nordlys™ IPL
With its state-of-the-art SWT IPL technology, the Nordlys™ system can treat a wide range of conditions, including:
- Acne: SWT IPL treatments can help improve the appearance of red blemishes, irregular pigmentation, and skin tone
- Aging skin: SWT IPL treatments can help address dark spots, freckles, age spots, uneven pigmentation, and diffuse redness
- Vascular lesions: SWT IPL can be used to treat port wine stains, unsightly leg veins, broken capillaries, diffuse redness, hemangiomas, and cherry angiomas
The number of treatments depends on the area and nature of what you’re having treated and may also depend on your skin type. During your consultation, we will determine how many treatments you can expect for your condition.
It makes your skin look clear and bright by delivering short bursts of light that directly target the blood vessels or melanin within your skin. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed using patented Dual Mode Filtering. The remaining wavelengths are absorbed by the hemoglobin in your blood vessels — only the treated ones — and the melanin in your freckles, sun spots, or other pigmented lesions.
With leg veins and other types of vascular lesions, smaller vessels can disappear immediately after Nordlys™ treatments. Larger ones fade away more gradually over the next few weeks.
Acne occurs when your sebaceous glands overproduce an oily substance called sebum. When extra sebum gets trapped in your hair follicles, your skin can become irritated — leading to the appearance of pimples on your face. Left untreated, some types of acne can cause permanent scarring.
The Nordlys™ system treats acne by reducing the blood supply to the sebaceous gland to slow down the production of sebum. The system delivers short bursts of SWT IPL directed at the skin. Using patented Dual Mode Filtering technology, the system filters the light to ensure that only the wavelengths necessary for the treatment are used. Because of this, only the blood vessels that supply the sebaceous gland are impacted, while the surrounding vessels are not affected.
Light & Bright™
The Light & Bright™ treatment is an aesthetic treatment that can remove dark spots, reduce redness, and address textural irregularities via skin resurfacing. The treatment uses two complementary advanced technologies found on the Nordlys™ system. The Light & Bright treatment uses both a patented intense pulsed light (IPL) technology called SWT (Selective Wavelength Technology) IPL on the face and chest areas to rejuvenate your skin.
If you have unsightly blood vessels or redness, excess melanin in your skin sometimes due to sun damage, or your skin has textural irregularities that bother you, then Light & Bright™ treatment may be right for you. Our skincare specialists can assess your skin and condition and determine whether the treatment will meet your needs.
The IPL used in the Light & Bright™ treatment is called SWT IPL. It is a narrowband wavelength IPL, meaning it cuts off broader light bands that are not always necessary to treat a given condition. Some other IPL’s use broadband IPL light. The SWT IPL technology filters out some higher harmful wavelengths of the broader bands of light and fewer treatments may be needed compared to older IPL technologies.
The cost of Light & Bright™ treatment will be determined based on the condition and size of the area being treated. Book a free consultation to learn more about this treatment and the number of sessions required to address your specific skin condition.
